Air conditioners may be one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, but they sure can be an eyesore. If you don’t want your big, boxy (albeit loved) AC unit stealing the thunder amongst all your landscaping, you need to hide it from sight. Luckily, there are lots of ways to do this!
- Fence or box it in – One of the fastest and easiest ways to hide an unsightly AC unit is by constructing a box or fence around it. With just a few materials from the hardware store and a little bit of elbow grease, you can create something to block the unit from view while still leaving it accessible for maintenance and repairs. When using the box approach, just be sure to allow for adequate ventilation and space around the unit.
- Landscaping – Landscaping can provide a beautiful, natural wall that will keep your unit well-hidden. Bushes and shrubs do this job perfectly, especially evergreens which will hide the unit with year-round greenery. Just make sure you blow out the unit once or twice per year to remove any leaves or plant debris that may have fallen inside it.
- Trellis – A lovely garden trellis can also be used to hide your favorite cooling appliance. These are readily available at most hardware stores or plant nurseries, and they’re simple to install. Plant a few climbing plants around them for added protection.
- Direct the eyes elsewhere – Another option is to create focal points in your yard that will attract attention. A beautiful planter or lawn ornaments can do the job. The main goal is in creating something interesting enough that people choose to look at it rather than your AC unit.
Air conditioning may be a necessity here in Arizona, but the unit doesn’t have to dominate your yard and turn it into an eyesore. Use the tips above to hide your unit, and call R&R Refrigeration for all your maintenance and repair needs.
